Kenrick's NLP persuasion competition
It's one of the most remarkable stories about the legendary Milton Erickson.
The year was 1957 and Dr. Erickson was invited to present at the Palo Alto VA hospital.
The psychiatrists were lining up with their patients in the call.
They would enter a samll hall where Dr. Erickson would meet briefly with each patient.
When he concluded and sent them on their way, the doctors would nod their heads knowingly about Erickson's work.
Remember this story took place just one year after the AMA finally approved that hypnosis was a valid medical treatment modality.
One of the patients on the line had a small behavioral problem.
He stabbed everyone he met.
The kid and his doctor were waiting in line for over an hour and watching people come out in deep somnabulistic trances.
Frightened, the patient said, "You can't use that electric shock stuff on me."
His doctor told him to quiet down and wait.
Finally, they entered the room where Erickson was standing.
The patient laughed. Erickson, stricken twice with polios, was leaning on two canes.
He briefly asked the doctor for the patient's history and told the doctor to sit down.
He then focused on the young man and asked,
"How suprised will you be when all your behavior changes completely next week?"
The patient snorted, "I'll be very suprised."
Erickson turned to the doctor and said, "OK, you can take him now."
Everyone in audience snickered. They joked hypnosis doesn't work with wise-guys.
They missed the whole thing.
And the next week, the patient's behavior changed completely.
Amazing story. So what was it exactly
that Erickson did?
And how can you do the same in your business?
Why was Erickson the least suprised person when he got the news.
